Scene Study for TV/Film Auditions is a specialized 5-week class designed to hone your skills in dissecting scripts, understanding characters, and delivering captivating performances in audition scenarios. Whether you're an emerging actor or a seasoned professional, this comprehensive course will provide you with the tools and techniques to shine during auditions.

Course Objectives:

  • Script Analysis and Character Exploration:
    • Develop advanced skills in script analysis, dissecting scenes, and understanding character motivations.
    • Explore character depth and backstory to create authentic and compelling portrayals.
    • Learn to make bold and informed choices that set you apart in auditions.
  • Scene Work and Partner Dynamics:
    • Engage in in-depth scene study, both as an individual and with scene partners.
    • Understand the importance of active listening and reacting to scene partners.
  • Audition Preparation and Performance:
    • Adapt scene study skills specifically for auditions, including cold readings and callbacks.
    • Develop strategies for bringing authenticity and depth to your audition performances.
  • On-Camera Auditions:
    • Receive hands-on experience with on-camera auditions, replicating real-world scenarios.
    • Learn camera techniques, framing, and how to make the most of your on-screen presence.
    • Gain insight into adapting your performance for the camera while maintaining the integrity of your character.
  • Feedback and Fine-Tuning:
    • Participate in mock auditions and scene work regularly, followed by constructive feedback.
    • Refine your audition pieces and scenes based on feedback from instructors and peers.
    • Continuously improve your scene study and auditioning skills throughout the course.

Class Format:

This intensive class emphasizes scene study, combining practical exercises, scene performances, and on-camera audition simulations. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with scene partners, receive personalized feedback, and refine your audition technique in a supportive and immersive environment.

About the instructor:

Sarah East (Owner, The Audition Room) is a working actor, casting director, and member of the Screen Actors Guild. She’s worked as an Audition Coordinator and Acting Coach with the area's largest talent agency and production companies for almost a decade, learning the casting process from the inside out. After graduating from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in 2005, Sarah spent time in New York City performing sketch comedy and improv before moving to Louisville, where she's grown her theatrical and on-camera resume to include nearly 100 Co-Star, Spokesperson, and Principal credits in film/tv, commercial, and live shows. Sarah's work as a private acting coach has been credited with helping students and adults book on-camera roles in box office feature films, tv shows, and commercials.
